The rest of my Christmas display - full of Pyrex - Snowflake Garland - with the rare 024 right in the center where it should be!  Got the ceramic trees from a local ceramic shop - couldn't find them in the wild so I had them made!  The owl I got at Target...

The three trees are from Target - the Rodney Kent I changed the black 503s seasonally.  this time I used sold turquoise/aqua and my totally dishwasher damaged "opal" 503.  It started out its life as a yellow 503 but the yellow is totally gone!  Just a bit of a shadow of it left on the rim!

Another "opal" 503 in the single Rodney Kent.  The owl is from Hobby Lobby.  The aqua/turquoise seems to fit so nicely in my hutch!

Love to change my Pyrex with the seasons!

Working on my Christmas display of Pyrex!

Decided to try the cream/gold/black color scheme for the baker's rack in my dining room.

Added some ornaments made in Germany I'd gotten at an estate sale.

Also from an estate sale my husband and I went to Friday are the signed owl glasses - Georges Briard!

Paid $1 a piece for the 6!  Saw the same glasses for sale on eBay for $74 and $75 for 6!  Love it when that happens!

Had tried incorporating gold garland but decided it was just too much!  What do you think?

Also in the dining room - red Christmas Pyrex with Verde green mixed in!  The Santa Blow Mold I got at another estate sale - these have really been good lately - and the NOEL I got at Hobby Lobby...

Next will be my living room which will have the aqua/blue/white color scheme!

Just in yesterday!

Another cozy to add to my collection!

Brown Homestead Pyrex with Cozy, YES!

Just when I think I have them all - another cozy shows up!

Still looking for the elusive Cinnamon Country Pyrex with Cozy!

Hope it shows up soon, very soon!

Hum, it's beginning to look a lot like fall here in Louisiana!  Might even have our first freeze of the season this week.  A bit early but I've got my Pyrex ready for it!

Nouveau Floral with under plate and Sol Flower.  In the back is Town & Country Cinderella Set.

Thought I'd add to my fall display my new obsession - Finel - see how it works so well with the Pyrex Floral Bubbles!  In the background, another 4 piece set of Town & Country along with a couple of Trailing Flowers....

Let the cool weather come, I'm ready!

Mailman done good today!  Got my NIB Balloons and the yellow bowl to complete my Federal Dots!  Had traded a Balloons set for a NIB Hostess.  I just loves the boxes!

As I said, I just love those boxes!

Close up of the Federal Bowls!

Found these 3 Forest Fancies at an outdoor flea market today.  $12!

It was a REAL GOOD DAY!

Now to get to the wine and the LSU/Alabama game!  Go Tigers!

I do enjoy my colorful collection of Pyrex but occasionally I like to mix in some Opals.  Here's an example of the Opals.  The largest is an 024, then an 023, 022 and finally the smallest 080.

The tiny teapot I got this summer in the box of Red Rose Tea which is that wonderful tea sold in Canada.  I learned to drink tea with milk in Canada while visiting years ago and have been drinking it "English Style" ever since!

With sadness in my heart, I take down my Halloween display.  Even found something for next year's display at an estate sale yesterday.  Only $3 - love that price.  Found the Jeannette pie plate and will try to include it in my fall display which is a work in progress right now.  The Federal dots bowl I got as a trade and the rest I found at antique shops along the way.
Also got the Avon Christmas ornament, $2, at the estate sale.  The other Federal bowls I found at a flea market near here - first time ever to find Federal anywhere in the wild!  The pink hostess I bought from a fellow Pyrex fanatic/collector!  This is the second Early American 404 I find in the wild lately!  I thought they were really rare but I seem to be a magnet for them.  I have 2 completed sets of those so I'll be trading or selling this one.

New fall display.  Found those foam leaves at Target on sale for $1.50.

A few of my UFOs.  Added the Butterfly Gold, left the Pineapple and the burgundy.  It's really a true burgundy, not the red the picture shows.

A closeup!

Really looking forward to changing all of these fall colors to some Christmas colors!

This year it'll be all shades of blue and white!

Stayed tuned for that and some more adventures as I feed my Pyrex addiction!

Have been real busy lately!  Class Reunion, trip to an rv park to celebrate daughter-in-law's birthday.  Getting ready for another rv trip has kept me too busy to think.

Did have a chance to clean up and re-arrange the Pyrex and Cathrineholm that sits on an baker's rack on the screened in porch in front of my house.

Thought you might like to see it!

That's the Cathrineholms sitting on pretty and clean on my counter waiting to fill up the bottom shelf of the baker's rake.

Here's how it looks at night with the pumpkins I got at a flea market for $5 a piece!

Can't wait for Halloween!

Thought I'd share with you how I change my displays of Pyrex to match the seasons.  Since we're full force into the fall/Halloween season, I'm so into the black/golds/oranges of that time of the year!
The Rodney Kent usually has 2 black 503s but I thought that side of the room need more orange so I used the Daisy 503s instead.  One of the black 503s sits on a Space Saver Musical Staff.  The three Pyrex bowls are last year's from Target.
The other black 503 is sitting pretty in the single Rodney Kent.  The 475 with hugger is Pueblo and since it's a charcoal gray, it fits right in with the black!
Underneath Mr. Skeleton is the Pineapple Party Chip/Dip Set.  The bracket is my husband's bracket that he makes since the original brackets are so hard to find!
On the bottom shelf is my newest edition - Silhouette with rattan trivet - sitting on top of the 400 set of Daisy.  Next to them is the Daisy refrigerator set with the black 503 instead!
On the bottom shelf is also the Flameglo 400 set with the Terra Cotta Rose perched on top!
Middle shelf under the Pineapple Party is the "Brown" set of bowls with the gold pixies on the side.

On the bottom shelf is the Americana Fall Colors!  Above, on the top shelf, are the Orange Butterprints with the Daisy Cinderella bowls on top.

I guess you can say I'm ready for fall and for Halloween!

Wanted to share with you the wonderful and amazing trades and purchase I got in the mail today!  Hey, I'm doing my part to keep the Postal Service afloat!

The Bake n Carry is part of a collection of these that I have gotten recently.  I've got one more let to find - Country Cinnamon Bake n Carry - solid rust with the cloth cozy.  Interesting there are still lots of these still in the box!  Wonder why people didn't open the boxes?  Bad Christmas presents, wedding gifts to non-cooks?

The aqua set of fridgies and Primary Set I got as a trade for the turquoise hostess set with bracket and an open baker - white on turquoise snowflake.

For pink stems I got the Silhouette with rattan trivet and burgundy 024.  Been lusting after this Silhouette with trivet for some time!  Wouldn't get it unless it had the trivet!  Burgundy 024 is rare - not in real good condition but okay for where I want to display it.

The fleur de lis cups and a 474 lid I traded for the Spices with wooden trivet and a 503 lid.  The cups are not Pyrex but I like the fleur de lis being from Louisiana with our French background here in the southern part of the state.

The box from the Silhouette and 024 trade!  The person is from Alaska and can only trade using flat rate boxes because of the high cost of shipping - so she sure knows how to stuff the boxes and is a mean packer!  Nothing broken!

But we had a scare when tracking the package it left Baton Rouge coming in from Alaska and went on to San Francisco!  What!  Would I get it?  What was the deal here?  Well it came back to Baton Rouge and then to my small town which is 45 minutes away!  Why the detour?  I'll never know.  The box was torn but the contents were intact!

Trading is one way of growing your Pyrex collection!

Let me know if you trade and how it's working for you!

Only things left that didn't sell at the garage sale.

The weather was warm and muggy, not our usual October cool, crisp days.  Even rained a bit around 2 pm but people still kept coming.

Met some budding Pyrex collectors who are just starting out.

It was lots of fun but lots of work.

What's left is going to ARC - local thrift shop!

Totally unrelated to the garage sale - thought I'd post some "eye candy"!  My favorite bake ware set - Horizon with the Finel Hearts perched on top to show how much I love the blues!

So happy to put the annual garage sale to rest.  Time to gear up for my class reunion this weekend!

Won't be hunting Pyrex - will be looking for something to wear that can make me look 40 pounds lighter!  Think that will happen?  I have about as much luck with that endeavor as I have with finding a Lucky in Love!

Annual city-wide garage sale!

My extra Pyrex for sale - all priced and ready to go tomorrow.
Other stuff for sale!
And some other stuff!

Hope the weather holds up.  It's October in Louisiana and it 90 degrees outside!  Cool front coming and can't come soon enough!

Will let you know how we did!

I used to be obsessed with moving.  When I was single and raising my two daughters after a divorce, I'd just take up and move at the drop of the proverbial hat!  My daughters hated it but now that they are grown say they learned some important lessons with the many moves.  They learned to make friends easily, they never got bored in one place, each move brought a new room to set up and decorate!

I no longer move so much!  My 1940s style house is perfect for me and my husband and my collection of Pyrex!

Now, I'm content to move my Pyrex around!
Last night post!  Now look at how I changed things around today....
I also added the Horizon Blue on the empty shelves...
I also changed things around next to my desk....
I really like the way it looks...for now...
This is how the corner looks...

I'm so happy to be in my studio surrounded by my Pyrex!

It's too hard to move now that I'm older and perhaps a bit wiser - so I satisfy my need to move by moving my Pyrex around as often as I'd like!  Cheaper too!

A picture of my Pyrex in the studio/study on one side of the room.  Working on cleaning out and clearing out for our city wide garage sale.  Just freed up the shelves that are showing a bit in this pic.  Don't know what will go on that one but it's sure to be Pyrex.  I try to group my Pyrex by color, or collection, or season.

On a different note, someone asked me to take a picture of the blue 401s side by side to compare the colors.  The one on the left is from the "Reverse Primary" set and the one on the right is from an old Primary
set.  See how much darker and more of a true blue the one on the left is?

Well.  Gotta go!  Got a big mess all over the studio!  Until next time!

Pyrex came in solid colors!

This shelf is in my study/studio.

What an amazing sight!

I look forward to being at my computer and occasionally looking up to see these.

Old 50s radio on the top shelf was my family's.  We listened to Paul Harvey at lunchtime almost every day.

The car is McCoy.

The carafe is Pyrex also.  Atomic motif also such a 50s thing.

1950s - my favorite era!

Thursday, September 26, 2013

Cleaned out and cleared out Pyrex yesterday.

Posted this picture on the Pyrex for Trade site on Facebook.  I love the way this works.  Really enjoyed these pieces but have no more room to display them properly.  So, I let them go to new homes.

The space savers - Rooster and what I call Embroidery - went first.  Next went the Friendship 933.  I'm in the process of negotiating for the Medallion.  The Hex, Spices, and Hearts are still available but there is some interest.

If they don't sell on FB, I'll have them for sale at our annual citywide garage sale on October 5 and 6.
I let some go so I can justify buying some more!

That's the way an obsession works, right?

Early American Pyrex - not everyone's favorite but I seem to be obsessed with the 400 set!

Someone on my Pyrex Facebook site posted a picture of the 400 set and I was hooked!  Had to have the set.  Found one on an obscure for sale site - $120!  Plus shipping!  Yikes.... I could buy 12 bottles of $10 wine for that....my other obsession...wine.....

Of course, the 404 of the set is a bit hard to find, I was told.  The other 3 are not a problem.  That made it even better to obsess over.

On a Pyrex hunting trip to Branson, MO, my hubby and I were in Ozark, MO and what do I see but the 400 series EA sitting on a shelf calling my name.  Got the owner of the booth to sell it to me for $90 from the original price of $125.  Eureka in Ozark, MO!

Months go by, I'm checking out Pyrex on etsy, a 404 pops up!  $16!  Yes, I'll take it!  So I also find the other 3 for about that price plus shipping.  Now I've pieced together another set for a lot less!

Walking around an antique shop in Spring, TX a couple of weeks ago and what do I see on a shelf?  An EA 404!  Maybe they're not quite as rare as I thought.  Anyway, I scope it up, post it on my FB trade site and quickly trade it for some other Pyrex goodie I didn't think I could live one more minute without!

404 Early American - rare?  Not sure but I seem to have a radar for that one right now.

If only I could be as lucky with the 404 Shenandoah!

Oh, well, it's on!  The hunt for yet another "rare" piece of Pyrex.

Which came first, the paintings or the Pyrex?

I often wonder, why the obsession with Pyrex?  I've had various collections throughout my life starting with green stemmed glassware, to McCoy pottery, and later to enamel coated cast iron pot and pans.

But, Pyrex, unlike the others, seems to be here to stay.

I've also painted pictures for as long as I can remember.  My painting style has evolved through the years and has settled on what I like to call "Color Impressionistic".

When I took pictures of my Pyrex and saw my paintings in the background, I noticed how much the paintings and the Pyrex seemed to look so good together.  The colors of the Pyrex complimented the colors in the paintings...

This painting is called "Festival Girl".  The Pyrex on the coffee table are "UFOs".  It originally came with the turquoise 024 but I have other 024s in different colors so I change them seasonally.  See how they work well together?  I think so...
This painting is my ode to Irma LaDouce - the hapless prostitute played by Shirley MacLaine.  See how she goes so well with the Friendship.

Lastly, here is a painting I did of a lady I saw at a Mexican restaurant celebrating her birthday.  She walked in carrying those decorative bags, wearing that colorful dress and sporting her feather crown!  I loved her so much I just had to try to capture the festive mood of the birthday party.

I think she fits in quite well with the colorful pots and green chairs in my kitchen!

So which came first, the Pyrex or the paintings?  I'm not sure, but I do know they work well together and give me so much pleasure.  So much so that I couldn't help but share a bit of it with you!
